Testimonials

I had already seen 4 prominent eye surgeons in Beverly Hills before I was referred to you for another opinion regarding Cataract Surgery. I must say that, after meeting with these surgeons, I was hesitant to come to such a young doctor, but you had been very highly recommended by a few friends.

What to Expect With Malibu Cataract Surgery

Expectations with Malibu cataract surgery can be very exciting for someone that has cataracts, although it can be a bit scary also. Anyone that has a cataract in either one or both eyes can attest to the fact that getting a clearer vision back is an exciting aspect of the Malibu cataract surgery. Such an improvement in eye sight is worth the fear, but with the procedures that have become so common these days, there is little need for fears at all. When you experience cloudiness in your vision and find out that you have cataracts, you can ease your fears with the information that follows on what to expect with the surgery. Everything from the actual surgical procedure to remove the clouded natural lens to the implantation of the replacement intraocular lens, most fears will disappear when you know exactly what to expect and all it will entail.

The first step you should take when you suspect that your clouded or blurred vision is caused by a cataract is to make an initial exam and consultation appointment with a Malibu cataract surgery specialist. Your exam will tell them how severe your cataract is and whether or not they will advise the intraocular lens implant. Once you have determined that the IOL implant is necessary and that you will allow the removal and replacement, the surgeon will suggest a few things before the surgery. There are certain medications that may have to be ceased for the benefit of the cataract surgery and your safety. If the Malibu cataract surgery specialist says that you are to place daily antibiotic drops in your eyes, be sure to follow the directions closely up until the day of the surgical procedure. Many times, you will need to put the drops in the affected eye more than once a day for a period of a week or so. This is important preparation of your eye for the surgery and there will be additional drops prescribed after the lens replacement surgery, as well.

As soon as the replacement has been completed, the surgeon will thoroughly cleanse the surrounding area and place a protective shield or sterile covering over your eye. You will need to keep the eye covered for a few hours according to your doctor’s recommendation. A short recovery time in the outpatient area and you will be ready to go home. Once you are dismissed to go home, get your prescription filled for the drops to be administered before you get home so you can rest and recuperate. The protective eye patch should be worn for a while whenever you are sleeping and also sun shades for blocking bright lights from your healing eye. Directions for keeping your eye from infection could be to discontinue swimming, exercise, heavy lifting, hot tubs and anything that might cause stress on the healing. Close your eyes tightly when showering so that no water can get in and cause an infection. Be sure to go to your follow up appointment with the Malibu cataract surgery specialist to make sure that the eye is fully healed and doing well.
