Testimonials
Dear Dr. Soroudi, I have been suffering from droopy eyelids and puffy bags under my eyes for years. So many people asked me if I was angry or depressed or if I hadn't had much sleep, but I was fine; it was just the way I looked.

Visit your Santa Monica ophthalmologist for healthy eyes
Eyes tend to be a neglected part of our body, as most of us don’t do anything to keep them healthy but rely on them every waking moment. The very least you can do is visit your Santa Monica ophthalmologist for a yearly checkup. Your ophthalmologist in Santa Monica will be able to thoroughly assess the current condition of your eyes, and this will include checking for any early signs of diseases that are much more easily treatable when picked up soon. They will also give you a sight test. It’s very common to be short or long sighted and to suffer from astigmatism and a large percentage of the population rely on wearing contact lenses all glasses to correct their sight. The alternative is of course to have corrective surgery, and more and more people are choosing to do this. Lasik surgery has been around for a very long time and millions of people worldwide have had their sight corrected and now either have no need for glasses or will only need them for reading or driving as part of the natural ageing process.
Your Santa Monica ophthalmologist will be able to advise you as to whether this surgery could help your sight, and will be able to assess your eyes and take measurements to see the degree of corrective surgery which is necessary. They will measure the curvature of your cornea as this is distorted in people with sight defects. This surgery may be suitable for you even if you need a very high prescription, and if this is the case you will be amazed at the results. This is because the effects are almost instant, and as soon as surgery is complete you will be able to notice the difference in your eyesight. Someone who is very myopic will find that they are suddenly able to read the exit signs above doorways and road signs, and imagine the pleasure of being able to cross the road safely without wearing glasses. There are complications with all surgeries, but most people are able to have Lasik without any side effects. Your Santa Monica ophthalmologist will talk to you about the possible risks and will tell you exactly what the surgery involves.
The surgery is done using local anesthetic to numb the eyes before a flap of skin is formed by cutting the surface of the eye. This flap is carefully folded back to expose the cornea so that the laser is able to correct the curvature. The laser uses a tracking system so even if you move very slightly it will be able to keep in the correct position. After the laser has corrected the cornea the flap is replaced, and that is it. Of course you will need to take care of your eyes afterwards and you cannot rub them until the flap has healed. It is most unlikely that you will forget and rub them regardless as it’s likely your eyes will feel a little dry and slightly sore for a few days. Your Santa Monica ophthalmologist will need to see you a week or so after surgery just to make sure everything is perfect.
