Testimonials

Dear Dr. Soroudi, I cannot believe how I lived my life for so many years with my poor vision prior to you fixing my Keratoconus. I am a busy dentist, and for years, although I could do my close-up work without much difficulty, I had been suffering from poor vision when driving and going to my son's wrestling games:

The history behind your Beverley Hills lasik eye surgery

It’s no fun being long or short sighted and having to wear glasses or contact lenses to get around. However there is an alternative which is Beverly Hills lasik eye surgery which is a type of refractive surgery designed to correct myopia (shortsightedness), hyperopia (being longsighted) and astigmatism. Astigmatism is a very common optical defect in which vision becomes blurred due to the inability of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus on the retina. It’s generally due to having an irregular curvature of the cornea and there are two different types. Examination at your Beverly Hills lasik eye surgery will determine which type you have. Luckily lasik eye surgery can easily correct this defect. Lasik is short for laser assisted in situ keratomileusis and the surgery is performed by ophthalmologists using a laser.

The procedure used in Beverly Hills lasik eye surgery is very similar to other corrective procedures such as a photo refractive keratectomy, PKK and has been safely used for a number of years. It was first developed in 1950 by a Spanish ophthalmologist, José Barraquer in Colombia. He developed the procedure of cutting a flap in the cornea which is the part of the procedure called keratomileusis. He also researched how much of the cornea had to be left unaltered in order for the results to be stable in the long-term. Subsequent developments and refinements including radial keratotomy and photo refractive keratectomy were made in the USSR in the 1970s by SvyatoslavFyodorov. These techniques were later further developed in 1983 at Columbia University by Dr Steven Trokel who published a paper in the American Journal of Ophthalmology which talked about the benefits of using the excimer laser which had been patented in 1973 by Mani LalBhaumik. The technology for this laser was developed in the 1960s and this kind of later became the benchmark for refractive eye surgery. The first trials of this laser in the United States took place in 1989 with the concept of Lasik first being introduced in 1992.

Nowadays Beverly Hills lasik eye surgery is extremely safe and incredibly well tested. You will have been given a thorough examination by an ophthalmologist before surgery and would have been advised of necessary preoperative procedures. Patients who were contact lenses will probably have to stop wearing them for some time before the surgery. People who wear soft contact lenses will need to stop wearing them up to 3 weeks before surgery while those who were hard contact lenses will need to stop wearing them for six weeks before surgery. Don’t even think about cheating and wearing your lenses, because the results from your surgery will not be so effective. Some surgeons may even advise a longer time period without contacts. This is necessary because wearing contact lenses can slightly distort the shape of the eye, and when they are worn for a number of years this distortion takes quite a long time to recover.
