Dear Dr. Soroudi, I wanted to thank you so much for helping me regain vision in my eye after being hit with a metal stick over 15 years ago.

Chalazion/Styes

A Chalazion is a lump in the eyelid that is caused by blockage of one of the glands inside our eyelids that make mucous (the Meibomian Glands). This leads to severe swelling, pain, redness and inflammation of a part of or the entire eyelid.
A chalazion is not a sty. A sty can resemble a chalazion in the sense that it is also a lump in the eyelid. However, a sty involves glands and eyelash hair follicles that are closer to the skin surface of the eyelid. In addition, a sty is usually more painful and looks infected. Left untreated, chalazia turn into a large hard mass which will require a small surgical procedure.

Before Treatment

After Treatment

To this end, under local anesthesia only, Dr. Soroudi drains the chalazion from the under surface of the eyelid so there is no scarring of the skin whatsoever. This is a very safe and quick procedure which is done in the comfort of the office and does not take more than 5-10 minutes with minimal recovery time.
Of note, Dr. Soroudi has invented and patented a product (“eye-press”) that helps treat chalazia. This product is approved by the FDA and will be sold over-the-counter in the near future.
